LeBron James Sparks Retirement Rumors with New Video Tease
LeBron James is once again stirring up speculation about his retirement plans after sharing a mysterious video on social media. Back in June, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer teased fans with a seven-second clip during a press conference, where he was asked about the validity of retirement rumors. That particular video turned out to be a promotional piece for Amazon Prime.
Fast forward to Monday, and James has posted another intriguing video. This time, a man is seated on a basketball court as James approaches another chair to join him. As he sits down, the camera reveals a graphic that reads, “The Second Decision Coming Soon.”
In his social media post, James added, “The decision of all decisions. October 7th. 12 PM EST.” It’s noteworthy that this date coincides with the start of Amazon Prime Day, leading some to speculate that this could be a continuation of his previous Amazon campaign.
Recently concluding his impressive 22nd season in the NBA, LeBron shows no signs of slowing down. In his age-40 season, he averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game, notching 10 triple-doubles—the most he has achieved since the 2019-20 season, when he secured his fourth NBA championship. James joined the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2018 free agency and has since won one title with the team.
LeBron also made history by earning his 21st consecutive All-Star selection, extending his own record. After celebrating his 40th birthday on December 30, he averaged 25.1 points per game, the highest for any player aged 40 or older. Notably, he became the first player in NBA history to compete in the league alongside his son, Bronny James, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers last summer. The father-son duo has played together in 21 games.
If James decides to play in the 2025-26 season, it would mark his 23rd year in the NBA, breaking the current record he shares with Vince Carter. While he has yet to make a firm commitment, he mentioned he would evaluate his future after the Lakers’ playoff exit.
