Jeff Smith Responds with Humor to Troll’s Match-Fixing Claims

Canadian darts player Jeff Smith recently found himself in a humorous exchange with an online troll who accused him of match-fixing and demanded compensation. The incident occurred after Smith’s loss to Jamie Owens at the MODUS Super Series last week, where one particularly bold individual took to Instagram to voice their grievances.

The troll claimed that Smith had cost them money—likely due to a losing bet—while alleging that he had rigged the match. In a screenshot of their conversation shared by Smith, he firmly stated, "I don’t fix games. And clearly, you don’t understand the game."

In a surprising twist, the account responded, "If you have a little honour, give me the money back." Smith, known for his quick wit, replied sarcastically, "How much do I owe you? I’ll send it right over."

However, the conversation took a strange turn when the user seemingly backtracked, saying, "Nah, you don’t owe me anything," followed by, "And you won’t send it anyway." Still, the ‘fan’ persisted, claiming, "I lost €5,000 because of your fic (sic). Give it back to me."

Things escalated further when the account requested, "Please send me three €100 paysafe cards." In response, Smith took to his Facebook page to share the bizarre encounter and offered a scathing critique of the troll’s behavior. He wrote, "Imagine getting blasted on Instagram private messages for shooting these numbers: this is one of about 10 messages (so far)…there will be more."

Smith’s post highlights the absurdity of such interactions, reflecting on how players are often subjected to bizarre demands from fans. "Where do people get off messaging players these days? Back in the day, you’d get a smack up the side of the head for that," he quipped.

In today’s digital age, this amusing exchange serves as a reminder of the sometimes ludicrous nature of online interactions, especially in the world of sports.
