Zack Snyder’s The Last Photograph Ready to Begin Production: What We Know So Far
Exciting news for fans of Zack Snyder! The acclaimed director, known for his work on the Rebel Moon franchise, is set to dive into his long-awaited passion project, The Last Photograph. With the film now officially in the works, Snyder has enlisted rising stars Stuart Martin and Fra Fee to lead the cast. Both actors previously collaborated with Snyder on Rebel Moon, and their chemistry will surely bring depth to this compelling drama.
The Last Photograph is scheduled to start production this month, with filming locations spanning Iceland, Colombia, and Los Angeles, continuing through November. Snyder will direct the film, based on a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad, while also contributing to the story. The project will be produced by Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller under their production company, Stone Quarry, in partnership with Gianni Nunnari from Hollywood Gang Productions, alongside co-producer Alisha Stickney. Executive producers include Mediaset España, through Telecinco Cinema, William Doyle, and Jaguar Bite. The production will also benefit from the expertise of True North in Iceland and Jaguar Bite in Colombia, led by Juan Pablo Solano and Simon Beltran. Additionally, the score will be crafted by the renowned Hans Zimmer, alongside Steven Doar and Omer Benyamin.
Snyder shared his creative vision for the film, stating, “The idea of taking camera in hand and simply making a movie in an intimate way is very appealing to me. The Last Photograph is a meditation on life and death, reflecting some of the challenges I’ve faced in my own life and exploring those themes through visual storytelling.”
The film has also received the CINA incentive (Audiovisual Investment Certificate) from the Colombian government, offering a significant tax discount of 35% on audiovisual services, which underscores the project’s strong financial backing.
The Last Photograph follows the gripping story of an ex-DEA operative who must return to the treacherous mountains of South America to locate his missing niece and nephew after their diplomat parents are brutally murdered. He teams up with a washed-up war photographer—a former junkie who is the only witness to the killers’ identities. As their journey unfolds, they are forced to confront their pasts while navigating a surreal landscape that blurs the lines between reality and imagination.
Snyder’s dedication to bringing The Last Photograph to life has been a long-standing ambition. Despite his busy schedule with high-profile projects, he found an opportunity to finally make this film, especially after the strong bond he developed with Martin and Fee during the making of Rebel Moon. Once financing was secured, pre-production swiftly commenced, signaling the start of this exciting new chapter for Snyder.
Stuart Martin, whose star has been rising through his roles in both Rebel Moon films and the Snyder-produced heist thriller Army of Thieves, is represented by UTA, Independent Talent Group, Untitled Entertainment, and Sloane Offer Weber & Dern. Fra Fee, who was recently seen in the Apple TV+ series Prime Target and had a role in the Marvel series Hawkeye, is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency, 42, Untitled Entertainment, and Goodman Genow Schenkman.
