Zach Cregger’s Exciting DC Movie: What We Know About "Henchmen"
Zach Cregger, the talented writer and director known for his work on Barbarian and Weapons, is venturing into the DC Universe with an intriguing new project that fans are buzzing about. Recent reports reveal that Cregger has penned a script for a DC film titled Henchmen, shifting focus away from the iconic characters like Joker and Harley Quinn to explore the lives of lesser-known figures within Gotham City.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter, Henchmen centers around a low-level henchman who, through a stroke of luck, manages to incapacitate Batman. This unexpected turn of events catapults him into the limelight of Gotham’s criminal underbelly, where he begins to gain notoriety. The film may include brief appearances from notable characters such as Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn, adding a layer of excitement for fans.
However, Cregger’s project faces some significant challenges. As of now, James Gunn and Peter Safran have yet to cast actors for pivotal roles like Batman, Joker, or Harley Quinn in the new DC Universe. Additionally, there are concerns about the use of Batman-related content while Matt Reeves continues to develop his own Batman universe.
In a recent interview with THR, Cregger mentioned his enthusiasm for the Henchmen script but indicated that it’s not his immediate focus. His current projects include a film adaptation of Resident Evil, followed by an original sci-fi movie. After these endeavors, Cregger hopes to turn his attention to Henchmen, describing it as a unique story set in the DC Universe that is not centered around traditional superheroes.
“I have Resident Evil, and then I have a sci-fi movie right after that that’s original,” Cregger shared. “And then I have another finished script that I want to do after that. It actually takes place in the DC Universe, but it’s a totally original story, and it’s not a superhero movie.”
