Wyndham Clark Banned from Oakmont Country Club Following Locker Incident
Oakmont Country Club has officially confirmed reports that golfer Wyndham Clark has been banned from its property after an incident involving damaged lockers. This decision follows Clark’s disappointing performance at last month’s U.S. Open, where he failed to make the cut despite winning the tournament two years ago at the Los Angeles Country Club.
After the U.S. Open, Clark reportedly expressed his frustration by damaging lockers at the prestigious Oakmont facility. Images of the lockers, which showed significant damage, circulated widely on social media, further fueling the controversy.
In a letter addressing the situation, Oakmont Country Club President John Lynch stated, "Several of you have inquired about the situation involving Wyndham Clark and the steps being taken in response to his recent behavior." He went on to explain that after discussions with the USGA and the OCC Board, the decision was made to prohibit Clark from accessing the club’s property. This ban will remain in effect unless it is formally reconsidered and approved by the Board.
Lynch also noted that the ban could potentially be lifted if Clark compensates for the damages, makes a "meaningful contribution" to charity, and participates in counseling.
In response to the incident, Clark expressed remorse, stating, "I’ve had a lot of highs and lows in my career, especially this year. I made a mistake that I deeply regret. I’m very sorry for what happened." He emphasized his desire to move forward, not just for himself but for Oakmont and the USGA, as he focuses on the remainder of the year.
This is not the first time Clark has faced criticism for his actions on the course. During the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, he also damaged a T-Mobile sign with his driver and later issued an apology for that incident as well.
Clark is not alone in expressing frustration at Oakmont; fellow golfer Shane Lowry was also vocal about his displeasure, famously exclaiming, "f— this place" after missing a putt. In another moment of frustration, Lowry knocked a microphone to the ground after struggling to escape the rough during his first round.
