James Gunn Confirms Cut Scene from Upcoming Superman Movie
DC Studios CEO James Gunn recently revealed that a scene featured in one of the trailers for the highly anticipated Superman movie has been cut from the final version. This new installment of the DC Universe is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
In typical Gunn fashion, the film promises to reimagine the iconic superhero through a unique blend of thrilling action, humor, and heartfelt moments. The synopsis describes a Superman who embodies compassion and a deep-seated belief in the goodness of humanity.
What Scene Was Removed?
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn addressed a particularly criticized moment from the Superman trailer, which showcased a CGI shot of David Corenswet’s portrayal of the Man of Steel flying. Gunn clarified that this scene will not be present in the final cut, admitting he wasn’t fond of it either.
He explained that the awkward CGI shot was included in one of the promotional TV spots, but it was not a polished visual effects sequence. “It was essentially a photograph of his face combined with a drone shot in front of a real background,” Gunn stated. “While all the components were genuine, they were put together in a somewhat unconventional manner. I didn’t particularly like the shot, so it didn’t make it into the movie. I’m usually meticulous about reviewing trailers, but sometimes commercial edits slip through the cracks.”
