Trump Seeks Naming Rights for New Washington Commanders Stadium

In exciting news from the world of sports, former President Donald Trump is reportedly interested in having the new stadium for the Washington Commanders named after him. This development follows the announcement from the White House that Trump will be attending the Commanders’ game against the Detroit Lions this Sunday, where he will honor military veterans at halftime.

While the White House has not confirmed this report directly, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “That would surely be a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible.”

The planned domed stadium, set to be constructed at the historic RFK Stadium site, comes with a hefty price tag of $3.7 billion. According to ESPN, there have been informal discussions between Trump and team owner Josh Harris regarding the naming rights. A White House source suggested, “It’s what the president wants, and it will probably happen.”

Although a team insider noted that no formal talks have taken place yet, they expect discussions to unfold soon. The final decision on the stadium’s name will likely rest with the District of Columbia Council and the National Park Service.

Earlier this year, Trump stirred controversy when he threatened to halt the Commanders’ plans for the new stadium unless they reverted to their former name, the "Redskins." He expressed his views on Truth Social, stating, “My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way.” He emphasized that if the team does not change its name back to the original, he would reconsider any agreements related to the stadium’s construction.

Trump has also voiced support for other teams to reconsider their names, referencing the Cleveland Guardians and highlighting the importance of honoring heritage and history.

As Trump prepares to attend his first NFL game of the season this Sunday, the Commanders expressed their pride in participating in the NFL’s Salute to Service initiative, recognizing the sacrifices of veterans and active-duty service members.
