Bruno Fernandes Opens Up About Rejecting Al-Hilal’s Lucrative Offer to Stay with Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes has recently made headlines by turning down a substantial offer from Al-Hilal to continue his journey with Manchester United this summer. The 30-year-old midfielder shared insights into his decision during a press conference ahead of Portugal’s upcoming match against Germany.
“There was indeed an opportunity,” Fernandes revealed. “The president of Al-Hilal reached out to me about a month ago to discuss the proposition. I took some time to reflect on my future.”
He emphasized, “As I’ve always stated, I would consider a move if Manchester United believed it was right. I also spoke with coach Ruben Amorim, who persistently encouraged me not to leave!”
Fernandes explained that the club was not keen on letting him go unless he expressed a desire to depart. He acknowledged, “It was a very ambitious proposal, and the president was a fantastic person. While we didn’t initially discuss the financial details, my agent and I were aware of the offer.”
Ultimately, Fernandes turned to his family for guidance. “I had discussions with my wife and kids about my career goals,” he said. “Even on a personal level, the decision felt straightforward.”
He also noted his friendship with Joao Cancelo, who plays for Al-Hilal and with whom his children enjoy playing on the national team. However, Fernandes affirmed, “I want to compete at the highest level and participate in major tournaments, and I believe I am capable of doing so.”
By choosing to stay at Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes not only showcases his commitment to the club but also his ambition to excel in top-tier football.
