Texas QB Arch Manning Faces Injury During Overtime Win Against Mississippi State
Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning may have sustained an injury during an intense overtime comeback victory against Mississippi State on Saturday. Manning made a notable 13-yard scramble on the first play of overtime but exited the field, visibly in discomfort in his upper body. Backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell stepped in and delivered a crucial 10-yard touchdown pass to Emmett Mosley, securing the 45-38 win for the Longhorns.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian did not provide an immediate update on Manning’s condition after the game. Instead, he commended Caldwell’s impressive performance in relief. "I think his rapport with Arch was a big part of it. They have a great relationship," Sarkisian noted. "What a moment for that guy to step in and make that throw."
Before the injury, Manning showcased his skills by leading the Longhorns (6-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) back from a significant 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter. He completed 29 of 46 passes for 346 yards, throwing three touchdowns and one interception, in addition to rushing for a touchdown.
Manning had faced scrutiny for a lackluster performance against Kentucky the previous week, making this season a polarizing one for the highly regarded quarterback.
