In a recent episode of an unscripted podcast, tennis star Nick Kyrgios expressed his frustrations with the media landscape today, stating, “I believe the media has become a disgrace. It’s less about who is right and more about who can report something first.” He went on to emphasize the sensationalism often found in media coverage, noting, “They’ll say anything. Some of the things written about me are just downright absurd.”
Kyrgios highlighted a common aspect of tennis: racket smashing. “For instance, let’s talk about smashing rackets. It’s something that happens all the time. Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic have both smashed rackets. It’s a normal reaction for players under pressure,” he explained.
He feels that his own experiences have been unfairly scrutinized, saying, “For some reason, my racket smashing is viewed differently. People label me as a disgrace to the sport for it, but the reality is that it’s a common behavior among players. Almost every tennis player has done it at some point.”
