Taylor Russell Exits The Thomas Crown Affair: Recasting in Progress
In a surprising turn of events, Taylor Russell has departed from her role in the highly anticipated reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair, directed by Michael B. Jordan. Sources indicate that creative differences were the reason behind her exit. As production continues in London, the studio is actively seeking a replacement for Russell’s character — an insurance investigator who develops a complex relationship with a daring banking executive, played by Jordan.
This role has a rich cinematic history, originally portrayed by Faye Dunaway alongside Steve McQueen in the 1968 classic and later by Rene Russo opposite Pierce Brosnan in the 1999 adaptation.
Though Russell’s involvement in The Thomas Crown Affair has come to an end, she has exciting projects lined up. She will soon appear in the Korean thriller Hope, directed by Na Hong-jin, alongside notable actors Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Hoyeon. Additionally, she is set to star with David Johnson in an upcoming Frank Ocean film and is in negotiations for a remake of Single White Female, featuring Jenna Ortega, under Sony and Elizabeth Gabler’s 3000 Pictures.
Recently, Russell made her stage debut in the revival of Lucy Prebble’s The Effect, directed by Jamie Lloyd. She gained significant recognition for her performance in Bones and All, directed by Luca Guadagnino, where she starred alongside Timothée Chalamet and received the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Emerging Actress at the Venice Film Festival. Notably, she has also made her mark as a director, co-directing the award-winning documentary short The Heart Still Hums at the Palm Springs ShortFest.
Represented by UTA and attorney James Feldman, Russell’s career continues to flourish.
The star-studded cast of The Thomas Crown Affair also includes Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbaek, and Aiysha Hart. Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo are producing for Outlier Society, alongside Charles Roven at Atlas Entertainment. The screenplay was penned by Drew Pearce, with earlier drafts by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. Producers Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff of Toberoff Productions are also onboard, while Alan Trustman, who wrote the original film, serves as an executive producer.
Fans can look forward to the film’s release, scheduled for March 5, 2027. Stay tuned for more updates as the project develops!
