Steven Knight Takes the Helm for Amazon’s First James Bond Film
In an exciting announcement, Steven Knight has been named the screenwriter for Amazon’s inaugural James Bond film. This news broke last night, and this morning, the acclaimed creator of Peaky Blinders shared his enthusiasm for the project during an interview on BBC Radio.
“It’s always been on my bucket list, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring my vision to life,” Knight expressed. “As a lifelong Bond fan, I hope to infuse my passion into the screenplay, creating something that feels both familiar yet fresh, stronger, and bolder.”
Knight is set to write the screenplay for Denis Villeneuve, known for his work on Dune, who will direct the film. However, when pressed about potential actors for the iconic role of 007, Knight remained tight-lipped. “That’s a very good question, and unfortunately, I can’t provide an answer right now,” he replied during the interview.
The film will be produced by industry veterans Amy Pascal and David Heyman, with Tanya Lapointe serving as executive producer. While there has been much speculation about possible candidates for the lead role, sources indicate that the primary focus lately has been on solidifying the screenplay, with several meetings held to discuss potential writers.
Steven Knight emerged as the top choice for the role, but final approval only came after he met with Villeneuve, who is currently busy with the next installment of Dune. That crucial meeting took place last week, solidifying Villeneuve’s support for Knight’s involvement.

His other notable works include the BAFTA-nominated SAS Rogue Heroes (BBC), A Thousand Blows (Disney+), This Town (BBC), The Veil (FX), and All the Light We Cannot See (Netflix). Interestingly, Knight was also previously linked to a new Star Wars feature but stepped away from the project in October 2024.
