Rose Byrne Expresses Desire to Revisit Star Wars Role After 20 Years
Renowned actress Rose Byrne, famously known for her role in the Insidious film series, has revealed her eagerness to return to the Star Wars franchise over two decades after her appearance in Attack of the Clones. Reflecting on her brief but memorable role as Dormé, the handmaiden to Natalie Portman’s Padmé Amidala, Byrne stated she would “love” to step back into the galaxy far, far away if given the opportunity.
In a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Byrne shared her thoughts on rejoining the Star Wars universe. “To be even a microscopic piece of the [Star Wars] universe is so sweet,” she said. “You’re still part of this dialogue, this chain of characters in this film, this universe that resonates with people.”
Byrne portrayed Dormé, who had only a handful of lines in the 2002 prequel. Her character appeared in a couple of pivotal scenes before Padmé and Anakin Skywalker left for Naboo following dangerous assassination attempts. One of her standout moments is when Padmé asks a ship captain to “take good care of Dormé,” to which Byrne’s character responds, “He’ll be safe with me,” before showing her emotional vulnerability.
Reflecting on her character’s impact, Byrne noted, “The first scene I feel is more resonant… I’m establishing there’s a situation, and it’s fraught, and my feelings about it, and her feelings about it.”
Since Byrne’s appearance, the Star Wars galaxy has continued to expand, with the latest mainline film, The Rise of Skywalker, premiering in 2019. Additionally, Lucasfilm recently announced that Simon Kinberg will direct a new trilogy set outside the Skywalker Saga, while Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling are developing Starfighter, set for release on May 28, 2027.
As of now, it remains unclear whether any characters from the prequel era, including Dormé or Padmé, will make a comeback in future installments. However, Byrne has expressed her fondness for her role in the franchise, saying she “grew to love” her character and would eagerly reprise it if the opportunity arises.
