"Sinners" Returns to IMAX for a Spooktacular Halloween Experience
Exciting news for movie lovers! The critically acclaimed film "Sinners," directed by Ryan Coogler and starring the talented Michael B. Jordan, is making its way back to select IMAX theaters just in time for Halloween. This highly anticipated re-release kicks off on October 30 and will be available for one week only.
This marks the second IMAX re-release for "Sinners," following its initial run that was cut short to accommodate Marvel’s "Thunderbolts." Warner Bros. describes this limited engagement as a unique opportunity for fans to experience one of the most original and emotionally powerful films on the big screen, just as Coogler intended. The film will be showcased in premium IMAX 70MM format, enhancing the breathtaking visuals and storytelling.
Upon its debut in April, "Sinners" opened with an impressive $48 million at the domestic box office, making it the largest opening for an original film since Jordan Peele’s "Us" debuted to $71 million in 2019. With rave reviews and strong word-of-mouth support, "Sinners" continued to impress, nearly matching its opening weekend earnings in its second weekend—a remarkable feat for any film outside the holiday season.
To date, "Sinners" has grossed $278 million in North America and $366 million globally, all against a budget of $90 million. These outstanding figures highlight the box office appeal of both Coogler and Jordan, proving that audiences are eager to embrace original storytelling.
In "Sinners," Michael B. Jordan takes on the dual roles of identical twins Smoke and Stack, who return to their Southern hometown in the 1930s to open a juke joint. However, their plans are thwarted when vampires descend upon their small town. Variety’s chief film critic, Owen Gleiberman, praised "Sinners" as a "lavishly serious popcorn movie," noting its depth and significance as a mainstream horror film that tackles important themes surrounding the wages of sin in Black America.
Don’t miss your chance to see "Sinners" in IMAX—experience this cinematic masterpiece in all its glory this Halloween!
