Shinfield Studios Secures $340 Million Financing to Boost Film Production in the UK
Shinfield Studios has successfully secured a substantial financing package of £250 million (approximately $340 million). This British studio, known for major productions such as Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and The Acolyte, completed its construction last year in southern England. The studio’s owner, Shadowbox, has obtained this funding through Apollo-managed funds, and the expansive facility is now fully operational. Shinfield Studios stands out as one of several UK studios that have become integral to hosting significant American film projects.
Peter Rumbold, CEO of Shadowbox Studios, expressed pride in the studio’s achievements since its grand opening. “We are tremendously proud of what we’ve accomplished since fully opening Shinfield Studios last year,” he stated. “Shadowbox’s business model focuses on providing modern, high-quality film infrastructure, and today’s announcement marks a major milestone for Shinfield. It further validates the importance of purpose-built facilities within the global production landscape.”
In addition to Shinfield, Shadowbox operates a nine-stage, 850,000-square-foot campus in Atlanta, Georgia, and is currently developing a new 10-stage, 500,000-square-foot studio on the Gold Coast of Australia.
See-Saw Films Adapts Emma Forrest’s Novel Father Figure
See-Saw Films has announced that it has secured the rights to adapt Father Figure, the upcoming novel by Emma Forrest. This project will be produced under See-Saw’s label, Fanboy, which is led by Patrick Walters, an executive producer of Heartstopper. The story follows Gail, a troubled scholarship student at the prestigious Saint Saviours girls’ school. As she navigates her impulsive nature and search for connection, Gail finds herself at a precarious age where she longs for attention from men while still yearning for her mother’s presence.
Father Figure adds to See-Saw’s growing portfolio of literary adaptations, which also includes Shifters by Benedict Lombe and Welcome to Glorious Tuga by Francesca Segal, alongside a first-look deal with writer Ben Vanstone. Fanboy recently produced Sweetpea for Sky, a series featuring Ella Purnell that has been recommissioned.
Walters shared his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Father Figure is an incredible novel, and we’re so excited to be adapting it for television. Emma is a singular talent I’ve long admired since the seminal Your Voice In My Head.”
