As the U.S. Open approaches this weekend, Scottie Scheffler stands out as the clear favorite according to betting odds in Las Vegas. However, the newly crowned PGA Championship winner isn’t exactly thrilled about the attention that comes with it.
During a press conference at Oakmont on Tuesday, Scheffler was asked about how he feels regarding the betting odds and if he receives any messages from fans who have a "financial stake" in his performance. Not surprisingly, he acknowledged that most golfers get feedback from fans, regardless of betting implications.

While discussing fan interactions, Scheffler shared an unexpected revelation: he had to delete his Venmo account after fans discovered it. He explained, "I think everybody hears from fans whether they have a financial benefit or anything in their outcome. That’s why I had to get rid of my Venmo because I was either getting paid by people or receiving a bunch of requests for money when I didn’t win." He added with a smile, "It wasn’t a good feeling."
Scottie Scheffler is on the hunt for consecutive major victories following his impressive win at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow last month. His recent performance certainly justifies the odds in his favor—he has won three of his last four tournaments by a staggering 17 shots and boasts a remarkable 25% win rate since his first PGA Tour victory in 2022.
Yet, for Scheffler, statistics and betting odds hold little weight when he steps onto the course. "I don’t pay attention to the favorite stuff or anything like that. Starting Thursday morning, we’re all at even par, and it’s up to me to go out there and play against the golf course and see what I can do," he stated.
As the tournament kicks off, Scheffler will tee off on Thursday afternoon alongside fellow golfers Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland.
