Sandra Oh Joins Star-Studded Voice Cast of Animated Film "Fairyheart"
In exciting news for animation fans, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh is set to lend her voice to the upcoming animated feature "Fairyheart." Odin’s Eye will be showcasing this enchanting project at the American Film Market next week.
"Fairyheart" draws inspiration from the beloved 1965 Hungarian novel "Tündér Lala" by Magda Szabó. The film tells the captivating story of Lala, the young prince of the mythical realm of Tundarra, who embarks on a heroic journey to save humanity from the dark wizard Aterpater. Alongside him on this adventure are his loyal friend Bea, a courageous yet lonely human girl, and Gigi, a whimsical capybara unicorn with magical abilities.
The film features a talented voice cast, including Tara Strong, known for her work in "My Little Pony: The Movie," voicing Gigi; Emma Ho, recognized for her role in "The Expanse," as Bea; and Delia Chambers from "Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures" voicing Lala. Directed and co-written by Anita Doron, who previously earned an Oscar nomination for the 2017 animated film "The Breadwinner," "Fairyheart" promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience.
Sandra Oh, best known for her role in "Killing Eve," will portray the character Iris in this magical tale. With an impressive portfolio that includes voice work in "Raya and the Last Dragon," "Smurfs," and "American Dad!," Oh’s participation adds a remarkable depth to the film. Currently in production, "Fairyheart" is anticipated to be completed by early Q1 2028.
This enchanting co-production involves Mythberg Films from Hungary, Storyteller Pictures and Lakeside Animation from Canada, and Traumhaus Studios from Germany. The production team includes Jozsef Berger and Krisztina Endrenyi from Mythberg, Réka Temple from Cinemon, Paul Lenart from Storyteller, Iouri Stepanov and Courtney Wolfson from Lakeside, and Michael Luda from Traumhaus. Casting is managed by Rene Veilleux of Verite Entertainment, while notable support comes from the Hungarian National Film Institute, Telefilm Canada, Ontario Creates, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Creative Europe, and Eurimages.
Anita Doron expressed her excitement about Sandra Oh’s involvement, stating, “I’m deeply honored to have Sandra Oh as Iris. Her vibrancy, emotional precision, and soulful intelligence will breathe a fierce tenderness into ‘Fairyheart,’ illuminating the story with the kind of truth and beauty only she can summon.” Paul Lenart, the Canadian producer at Storyteller Pictures, echoed this sentiment, saying, “We are absolutely thrilled to have Sandra Oh join the cast of ‘Fairyheart!’ It’s a privilege to collaborate with such an exceptionally talented and accomplished performer.”
As anticipation builds for "Fairyheart," fans can look forward to a magical journey filled with adventure, friendship, and the timeless battle between good and evil.
