Taiwan’s Top Horror Franchise Expands to Indonesia: "The Rope Curse 4" Begins Production
Taiwan’s most successful horror series is taking a thrilling leap into Indonesia with its fourth installment, "The Rope Curse 4." This new chapter will blend local folklore, specifically the eerie "Kuntilanak," into the franchise’s established supernatural narrative. Under the direction of Shih-Han Liao, production has officially commenced in Jakarta, featuring stars Vera Chen and Wilson Hsu.
This marks the franchise’s first expansion beyond Taiwan, showcasing an ambitious shift for a series that has become a box office sensation at home. The plot of "Rope Curse 4" follows a man who journeys to Pontianak with his deceased sister’s remains, determined to fulfill her last wishes while searching for their estranged father. However, the story takes a chilling turn when a family member becomes cursed after witnessing a death, leading to a desperate quest for spiritual help. As the characters delve deeper into Indonesian culture, they encounter the Kuntilanak, a vengeful spirit rooted in local folklore.
Producer Jeff Tsou expressed excitement about this new direction, stating, “With ‘Rope Curse 4,’ we are seeding the curse into new lands. Indonesia is rich in spiritual and supernatural traditions, making it an ideal backdrop for horror that resonates both locally and globally.
