Campbell Hatton Shares Family’s Heartbreak After Father Ricky Hatton’s Passing

In a heartfelt interview, Campbell Hatton opened up about his family’s struggle to cope with the loss of his father, boxing legend Ricky Hatton, who tragically passed away at the age of 46. Ricky was found deceased in his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, by his manager, Paul Speak, after he failed to attend a boxing event the previous night.

The inquest into Ricky Hatton’s death commenced recently, and Campbell reflected on the whirlwind of emotions his family has experienced in the past few weeks. “It’s been quite a rollercoaster,” he shared with ITV. “Leading up to the funeral, it was incredible to witness the outpouring of love for my dad. There were thousands of fans lining the streets, which brought us a lot of comfort.”

Ricky Hatton’s funeral took place last week, drawing thousands of supporters who came to honor a man affectionately known as “The People’s Champion.” The event was graced by celebrities from various fields, including sports icons Tyson Fury and Wayne Rooney, as well as Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, all paying their respects to the boxing titan.

“Every day has its ups and downs,” Campbell admitted. “As a family, we’re just trying to take things one day at a time. Dad always said he was prouder of his fans than any titles or belts. Seeing so many people in the streets was surreal. The turnout was overwhelming.”

Reflecting on the shock of his father’s unexpected passing, Campbell expressed, “We are absolutely heartbroken. We had so many plans ahead, and this has hit us hard. However, the support we’ve received from everyone has been incredible, and it’s helping us through this tough time.”

He fondly recalled the close bond they shared, saying, “He used to call me his little Mini-Me. We were alike in many ways, and our playful banter was a big part of our relationship. To many, he was Ricky Hatton the boxer, but to me, he was simply Dad.”

Meanwhile, Paul Speak, who discovered Ricky at his residence, shared his own shock and feelings of loss. “When I arrived, the lights were off, which struck me as odd. I thought he might have just overslept. Hearing music from upstairs, I went up to check on him and was met with a wave of emotions that I had to process. I truly believe he didn’t intend for this to happen; he had so much to live for.”

The inquest revealed that Ricky Hatton’s death was due to hanging. If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or struggling with thoughts of self-harm, please reach out to the Samaritans for free and confidential support at 116 123 or visit samaritans.org.
