Tyler Skaggs’ Tragic Death: New Allegations Involving MLB Pitcher Wade Miley
The investigation into the drug-related death of Tyler Skaggs has taken a significant turn, linking current MLB pitcher Wade Miley to the case. Miley, a left-hander for the Cincinnati Reds, faces accusations of supplying drugs to Skaggs, who tragically passed away from an overdose in 2019.
According to a deposition from Skaggs’ former agent, Ryan Hamill, the late pitcher revealed he was using pain pills containing oxycodone that Miley allegedly provided. This revelation is part of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Skaggs’ family against the Los Angeles Angels, his former team.
Wade Miley and Tyler Skaggs were teammates with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2012 to 2013. The legal proceedings come on the heels of Eric Kay, a former publicist for the Angels, being convicted in Texas for supplying fentanyl-laced pills that contributed to Skaggs’ death. In 2022, Kay was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for his role in this tragic case.
Miley, 38, is not currently facing any criminal charges. However, his name has surfaced previously in relation to Skaggs’ overdose. During Kay’s sentencing, a recorded conversation was presented where Kay mentioned Miley as one of Skaggs’ drug suppliers. Further complicating matters, former New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey testified that he provided drugs to Skaggs while they were teammates on the Angels.
In addition to Harvey, several other players—C.J. Cron, Mike Morin, and Cam Bedrosian—also indicated they received drugs from Kay during their time with the Angels. Harvey and three others described the recreational drug use they witnessed while playing alongside Skaggs.
Miley recently signed a one-year contract with the Reds on June 4 and has made two starts this season. After undergoing Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in May 2024, he signed a minor league deal with Cincinnati in February.
Tyler Skaggs was just 27 years old when he was found unresponsive in a hotel room in Southlake, Texas, just before the Angels were scheduled to play the Texas Rangers. The investigation into his death remains ongoing, with the Skaggs family seeking justice through their lawsuit.
