Rebecca Romijn recently provided an exciting update about her much-anticipated return as Mystique in the upcoming Marvel film, “Avengers: Doomsday.” During an interview at The Hollywood Reporter’s San Diego Comic-Con suite, the star of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” expressed uncertainty about the completion of her filming, noting that the script is still a work in progress.
When asked if she had finished shooting her scenes, Romijn candidly replied, “I’m not quite sure. The script isn’t fully written yet. It’s been a lot of fun working on it, but they keep everything under wraps, so we don’t know much yet.”
Romijn remained tight-lipped about whether she’s read the entire script, stating, “I cannot confirm nor deny that I have read the entire script.” She also refrained from revealing the names of her co-stars, though she described the experience of reuniting with some of her original X-Men castmates alongside a new ensemble as “surreal.” She shared, “It was a wild experience, and I had some intense, almost regressive dreams during filming. My mind was really trying to process everything — it’s been 25 years since I first played this character, and it felt very strange.”
Reflecting on her return to the role of Mystique after nearly two decades since her last portrayal in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” Romijn shared her sense of ownership over the character this time around. “I know her very well. I returned with full ownership of Mystique, which felt great. There was a time when I struggled with imposter syndrome, questioning if I deserved the role. But this time, I felt confident and secure in my place.”
Marvel officially announced the cast for “Avengers: Doomsday” back in March, featuring a lineup that includes several beloved actors from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe. Alongside Romijn, fans can look forward to seeing Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Alan Cumming is also making a return as Nightcrawler, a role he played in “X2: X-Men United,” along with Kelsey Grammer as Beast from “X-Men: The Last Stand.”
Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project unfolds!
