TBA Studios in the Philippines has just released an exciting trailer for their latest historical biopic, “Quezon,” which is set to hit theaters domestically on October 15. This captivating film features Jericho Rosales, known for his role in “Siargao,” taking on the iconic character of Manuel L. Quezon. “Quezon” is the concluding installment of TBA Studios’ “Bayaniverse” trilogy, a collection of films that delve into the rich tapestry of Philippine history.
Joining Rosales in this star-studded cast are notable actors such as Iain Glen from “Game of Thrones,” Benjamin Alves (from “Widows’ War”), Mon Confiado (from “Exchange”), and the talented singer-actress Karylle. The “Bayaniverse” trilogy also includes the acclaimed “Heneral Luna” (2015), which holds the title of the Philippines’ highest-grossing historical film, and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” (2018). Jerrold Tarog, who directed both previous films, returns to lead the direction of “Quezon.”
Daphne O. Chiu-Soon, President and COO of TBA Studios, emphasized that while “Quezon” serves as the finale to the trilogy, it stands as a unique and independent film. Following its premiere in the Philippines, the film will be released internationally at a later date. This ambitious project has received support from the Film Development Council of the Philippines and CreatePHFilms.
“Quezon” is a gripping historical drama that explores the life of Manuel L. Quezon during the tumultuous years following the Philippine Revolution and under American occupation. As Quezon fights for Philippine independence, he navigates the treacherous waters of politics, outsmarting rivals like Leonard Wood, Sergio Osmeña, and Joven Hernando. In a relentless pursuit of power, Quezon ultimately faces Emilio Aguinaldo in the 1935 presidential elections, wielding charm and favoritism as his weapons in a campaign that transforms Philippine politics forever.
Benjamin Alves and Mon Confiado reprise their roles as young Manuel L. Quezon and Emilio Aguinaldo, respectively, from the previous films. Iain Glen portrays Leonard Wood, with Arron Villaflor and Cris Villanueva depicting Joven Hernando at different stages of life. The ensemble cast also features Romnick Sarmenta as Sergio Osmeña, Karylle as Aurora Quezon, JC Santos as Manuel Roxas, and Jake Macapagal as Manuel Nieto, along with a talented supporting group that includes Bodjie Pascua, Angeli Bayani, Jojit Lorenzo, Joross Gamboa, Therese Malvar, Ana Abad Santos, Ketchup Eusebio, and Nico Locco.
“We are thrilled to present ‘Quezon’ to audiences both in the Philippines and internationally,” said Chiu-Soon. “This project showcases our dedication to elevating Philippine cinema, ensuring that ‘Quezon’ offers a compelling cinematic experience for everyone, regardless of whether they have seen the earlier films.”
Mark your calendars for October 15 and prepare to be immersed in a pivotal moment in Philippine history with “Quezon.”
