President Trump Praises Sydney Sweeney’s Political Affiliation and Ad Campaign
In a recent statement, President Trump expressed his approval upon discovering that actress Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican. He highlighted his newfound appreciation for her viral American Eagle ad campaign, declaring it "fantastic."
In response to a reporter’s inquiry about Sweeney’s political stance, Trump remarked, "She’s a registered Republican? Oh, now I love her ad." He went on to share his surprise, saying, "You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. I’m glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic."
The "Euphoria" star’s voter registration has gained attention amid criticism surrounding her recent American Eagle jeans campaign. According to a report by the New York Post, public voter records indicate that Sweeney has been registered with the Republican Party in Monroe County, Florida, since June 2024.
American Eagle recently launched a campaign featuring Sweeney titled "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans." The ad has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some critics claiming the billboard’s clever play on words between "genes" and "jeans" evoked eugenics-era slogans. However, supporters have defended the campaign as a light-hearted marketing approach.
While some have labeled the campaign as "tone-deaf" due to perceived racial undertones, others have commended Sweeney for her stance against what they describe as "woke" advertising.
In the promotional video shared on the brand’s Instagram, the 27-year-old actress confidently walks toward an AE billboard displaying the tagline "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Genes," only to cross out "Genes" and replace it with "Jeans" before walking away.
Vice President JD Vance weighed in on the controversy during a recent appearance on the "Ruthless" podcast, humorously suggesting that the left’s response to Sweeney’s ad campaign reflects a misguided strategy. "My political advice to the Democrats is to continue telling everyone who finds Sydney Sweeney attractive that they are a Nazi. That seems to be their actual strategy," Vance quipped.
