Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth Unveil Teaser for Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ at Netflix’s Tudum Event
Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth took the spotlight at Netflix’s Tudum event on Saturday night, where they premiered an exciting teaser for their highly anticipated film, Frankenstein. This adaptation of the classic story, directed by the renowned Guillermo del Toro, has generated significant buzz among fans and film enthusiasts alike.
In this unique retelling, Oscar Isaac portrays the brilliant scientist Victor Frankenstein, while Jacob Elordi plays the creature he creates, and Mia Goth steps into the role of Victor’s fiancée, Elizabeth Lavenza. Del Toro, a longstanding admirer of Mary Shelley’s iconic novel, has expressed his passion for bringing this project to life for decades.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet before the Tudum presentation, Isaac shared his surprise when del Toro first approached him about the role. “I wasn’t expecting it. I was just sitting with him talking, and after a long conversation, he looked up and said, ‘I think that you need to be my Victor Frankenstein.’ I still can’t believe it,” he revealed.
At the #TUDUM 2025 event, Isaac conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “He said, ‘I’m going to make you a banquet as an actor,’ and that is exactly what he did. Every day on set was filled with excitement, allowing me to explore beautiful, challenging, and expressive moments.” He praised del Toro for being a supportive figure throughout the creative process.
Del Toro has indicated that this version of Frankenstein won’t fit the mold of a traditional horror film, with Isaac describing it as “a big, Mexican, dark, sumptuous, dramatic character piece.” Goth echoed this sentiment, stating, “It’s an incredibly epic film. I’ve never been part of something so grand. Yet, it’s also deeply emotional and personal. This story has been close to Guillermo’s heart since childhood, and I believe audiences will be pleasantly surprised by the depth of emotion in this film.”
Although Jacob Elordi was unable to attend the event, his portrayal of the monster made a striking appearance in the teaser. Isaac described the experience of seeing Elordi in character as “heartbreaking,” highlighting the complexity of the role: “He presents a graceful, beautiful, sad, and rageful portrait of this creature.” Goth praised the makeup team’s work on Elordi’s character, noting, “He had to endure hours in the makeup chair, but the results were absolutely worth it.”
