Exciting News: Noomi Rapace and Millicent Simmonds Join the Cast of ‘No Man’s Land’
In an exciting development for fans of horror and thriller films, Noomi Rapace and Millicent Simmonds have been officially cast in Vasilisa Kuzmina’s highly anticipated near-future horror thriller, No Man’s Land. As Goodfellas prepares to launch sales at the upcoming AFM, this film promises to deliver a gripping experience reminiscent of The Handmaid’s Tale and the unsettling atmosphere of Midsommar.
Produced by Spain’s AF Films, No Man’s Land features Rapace in the role of Magda, a strong and enigmatic leader who has forged an entirely female-led community in the aftermath of a devastating civil war. Simmonds, known for her breakout role in Wonderstruck and her trailblazing representation in A Quiet Place, will portray Elle, a devoted supporter of Magda’s mission.
The film’s plot unfolds as Magda’s son returns from war to a world devoid of men, igniting tension and apprehension among the women in the community. As hostility escalates and violence begins to emerge, he fears that the secrets of their newfound society—and the lengths they have gone to protect it—might endanger his life.
Inspired by true events from Hungary in the early 20th century, No Man’s Land draws parallels to the story of the "Angel Makers of Nagyrév," a group of women who, led by a charismatic figure named Auntie Suzy, took drastic measures against their abusive husbands to reclaim their lives, resulting in the deaths of dozens to hundreds of men.
Noomi Rapace, celebrated for her role as Lisbeth Salander in the Millennium trilogy, arrives fresh from her acclaimed portrayal of Mother Teresa in Teona Strugar Mitevska’s Mother. Known for her ventures into the horror genre with films like Lamb, Rapace continues to expand her impressive repertoire with upcoming projects such as Agnieska Smoczynska’s Hot Spot and The End of It, featuring Rebecca Hall and Gael Garcia Bernal.
No Man’s Land marks Kuzmina’s second feature film, following her successful debut with Nika, which premiered at SXSW 2022 and garnered Special Jury Recognition for Breakthrough Performance.
