NFL Teams Pledge $1.5 Million to Support Central Texas Flood Victims
In a powerful show of solidarity, the NFL, along with Texas teams the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, has committed to donating a substantial $1.5 million to assist communities affected by the recent catastrophic flooding in Central Texas. This announcement comes as the death toll tragically rose to nearly 70, with officials warning of additional flood threats.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was present at a recent game, where he emphasized the league’s commitment to aiding those in need. "The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans are coming together with the NFL Foundation to provide crucial support for the families and survivors impacted by the devastating floods in Central Texas," the league stated.
The Texans were the first to step forward, pledging $500,000 on Saturday to help provide essential resources for the affected communities. "We are heartbroken by the loss and destruction our neighbors in the Texas Hill Country have faced. Our thoughts and prayers are especially with those families of the missing children, and we hope for their safe return," the Texans expressed in their statement.
In a show of unity, the Cowboys announced they would match the Texans’ donation with another $500,000. "We are deeply saddened by the devastation and loss of life in Kerr County and the Texas Hill Country. Our hearts go out to the families affected, particularly the young girls who are missing and their loved ones. We are committed to supporting rescue and relief efforts alongside The Salvation Army," the Cowboys stated.
As of Sunday afternoon, over a dozen campers were confirmed dead, with one counselor and 11 campers still unaccounted for. The community is grappling with the aftermath of this tragedy, and both teams have pledged to continue supporting ongoing search, rescue, and recovery efforts in the coming weeks.
