Armstead’s decision to hang up his cleats stems from the persistent injuries that plagued him towards the end of his career. Reflecting on his struggles, he shared, "I’ve been dealing with a knee issue since my third year in the league." In a candid appearance on the "Nightcap Show," he explained how the pain affected his ability to practice and play. "After games, I wouldn’t be able to walk on my own until Wednesday or Thursday. I was relying on pain medication just to get through."
Drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Armstead quickly became a key player on the offensive line. Despite his talent, he faced challenges, never completing a full 16 or 17-game season. After three impactful years with the Dolphins, he officially announced his retirement in April.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Armstead expressed his deep connection to the game: "This was always more than a game to me! This has literally been my LIFE! I look back at my entire journey and walk away grateful, proud, excited, and at peace, knowing I did it the right way! Full investment to maximize the blessings God gave me!"
