Dallas Cowboys Bolster Defense with Logan Wilson Trade
In a strategic move to strengthen one of the NFL’s most challenged defenses, the Dallas Cowboys have acquired linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals. The trade, which was announced on Tuesday, involves a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
At 29 years old, Wilson sought a change after seeing a decrease in his playing time. He is currently in the second year of a lucrative four-year contract extension, valued at $36 million, which he signed in July 2023.
Wilson’s Impressive Track Record
Wilson, now entering his sixth NFL season, has consistently demonstrated his skill on the field, recording over 100 tackles in each of the last four seasons. He moves from a Bengals team that has struggled defensively, allowing an NFL-high 426.6 yards per game, to a Cowboys squad that ranks second worst with 397.4 yards per game given up. Despite boasting the fourth-highest scoring offense in the league at 29.2 points per game, the Cowboys hold a challenging record of 3-5-1, largely attributed to their defensive shortcomings.
A Tough Loss for the Cowboys
The Cowboys faced a tough defeat against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, losing 27-17 despite backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s commendable performance—completing 21 of 31 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns. The Cardinals’ running backs, Emari Demercado and Bam Knight, also had a strong showing, combining for 106 yards on 19 carries.
Looking Ahead
Legendary Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman has expressed skepticism about whether a single player can significantly turn around the team’s defense, especially given that five opponents have scored their season-high points against Dallas this year. The Cowboys will have to wait to see if Wilson can make an impact, as they are on a bye this week. Their next challenge comes against the Las Vegas Raiders, currently sitting at 2-6, on November 17.
