Lionsgate’s American Psycho Reboot: Patrick Schwarzenegger Eyed for Patrick Bateman Role
Lionsgate appears to have found a strong contender for the role of Patrick Bateman in the upcoming reboot of American Psycho, directed by Academy Award nominee Luca Guadagnino. Known for his unique storytelling, Guadagnino previously explored themes of horror and obsession in the 2022 film Bones and All, a cannibal romance featuring Timothée Chalamet.
The buzz around the new American Psycho adaptation centers on Patrick Schwarzenegger, star of Gen V and The White Lotus Season 3. Recent reports suggest that he is being considered for the iconic role in this fresh take on Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 black comedy horror novel. Interestingly, Schwarzenegger had previously expressed interest in the role after engaging with fans on social media, stating, "I’d love nothing more 😉" in response to a fan casting suggestion.
While Oscar nominee Austin Butler was initially rumored to be in the running for the lead role, Lionsgate has yet to confirm any casting decisions. Guadagnino will be working from a screenplay penned by Scott Z. Burns, known for his work on The Bourne Ultimatum.
As for the project itself, details about the plot, creative team, and production timeline remain under wraps, leaving fans eager for more information. The original American Psycho was adapted into a film in 2000, directed and co-written by Mary Harron, featuring an impressive cast including Christian Bale, Jared Leto, Willem Dafoe, and Reese Witherspoon. The story follows a seemingly perfect young businessman with a dark secret—he’s a psychopathic serial killer who preys on those he deems flawed.
