Ncuti Gatwa Joins the Cast of Bad Fairies: A Magical Musical Adventure
Exciting news in the world of animation! Ncuti Gatwa, known for his role in Doctor Who, has joined the cast of Bad Fairies, an enchanting animated musical produced by Warner Bros. Animation and Locksmith Animation. He will be lending his voice to a yet-to-be-revealed character, joining the talented Cynthia Erivo, who was recently cast as Jayne Staplegun.
Bad Fairies tells the story of a quirky and rebellious group of fairies who shake up their magical realm. Erivo’s character, Jayne, is described as a trailblazer whose bold nature ignites a spirited rebellion among her fairy friends.
This film marks a significant milestone as it is the first feature to emerge from the exciting first-look partnership between Warner Bros. and Locksmith Animation. Currently in production in London, Bad Fairies is set to hit theaters on May 21, 2027. DNEG Animation is onboard as the digital partner for this delightful project.
The screenplay is penned by Deborah Frances-White and directed by Megan Nicole Dong, alongside co-director Olivier Staphylas. Music for the film will be crafted by the Tony Award-winning duo Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, known for their work on Six: The Musical, with additional contributions from Grammy-nominated Isabella ‘Machine’ Summers of Florence + The Machine. Ian Eisendrath, famed for KPop Demon Hunters, serves as the executive music producer.
The creative team behind Bad Fairies also boasts an impressive lineup, including editor Sim Evan-Jones, cinematographer James C.J. Williams, character designer Uwe Heidschötter, heads of story Rikke Asbjoern and Chris Garbutt, and production designers Justin Hutchinson-Chatburn and Mike Redman.
