South Korean Comedy "My Daughter Is a Zombie" Tops Box Office with $8.3 Million
The South Korean fantasy comedy "My Daughter Is a Zombie" took the box office by storm over the weekend of August 1-3, earning an impressive $8.3 million from 1.17 million admissions. As reported by KOBIS, the tracking service from the Korean Film Council, this new hit has grossed a total of $12.5 million since its debut on July 30.
On its opening day, the film attracted over 430,000 viewers, setting a remarkable record for 2025 and surpassing the much-anticipated "Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning." Directed by Pil Gam-seong, the film features a talented cast including Cho Jung-seok, Lee Jung-eun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Choi Yu-ri. The storyline centers around a dedicated father, an animal trainer, who takes his infected teenage daughter to his mother’s rural home while society is on the hunt for the infected. Despite her transformation into a zombie, she still shows fleeting signs of humanity, prompting her father to use his animal training expertise to help her regain a sense of normalcy.
In second place, the racing drama "F1," starring Brad Pitt, added $3 million to its impressive total, bringing it to $23.8 million. The animated biblical tale "The King of Kings" secured third place with $966,839, increasing its total earnings to $6.9 million. Last week’s box office leader, the fantasy action film "Omniscient Reader," fell to fourth place with $708,446, amassing a cumulative gross of $6.7 million.
The animated sequel "The Bad Guys 2" made its debut in fifth place with $769,611, while Marvel’s reboot, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," slipped to sixth, adding $574,540 for a total of $4.2 million. In seventh place, "Detective Conan the Movie: One-Eyed Flashback" earned $332,845, bringing its total to $4.6 million. The children’s musical adventure "Bebefinn Sing-Along Movie: Into the Pinkfong World" contributed $264,713 to reach $1 million, while another children’s feature, "GoGo Dino the Movie: Gecko’s Dream," opened in ninth place with $130,974. Rounding out the top ten, the Korean thriller "Noise" added $127,866 for a total of $12 million.
Overall, the top ten films grossed a remarkable $15.2 million over the weekend of August 1-3, marking a significant increase from the previous weekend’s total of $12.3 million and establishing it as the highest weekend total of the year.
