Spanish streaming giant Movistar Plus+ has officially renewed its multifaceted content agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), ensuring that it remains the exclusive Pay 1 destination for Sony Pictures feature films in Spain. This renewal means that Spanish audiences will continue to enjoy a wide array of blockbuster films following their theatrical and home entertainment releases.
Among the exciting titles coming to Movistar Plus+ are recent releases like 28 Years Later and new installments in popular franchises such as I Know What You Did Last Summer and Karate Kid: Legends. Viewers can also look forward to a treasure trove of beloved catalog franchises, including Spider-Man, Ghostbusters, Jumanji, Men In Black, Bad Boys, Hotel Transylvania, The Da Vinci Code, Equalizer, and timeless classics like Little Women, Whiplash, and Call Me by Your Name.
The renewed agreement also enhances the Movistar Plus+ channel lineup with the inclusion of Sony networks’ AXN channel and the return of AXN Movies, which specializes in blockbuster hits. Fans can catch popular AXN series such as The Good Doctor, Criminal Minds, Chicago Fire, and S.W.A.T. In addition, the platform boasts an extensive library of over 100 series, including award-winning dramas like Damages and The Shield, along with exclusive Sony Pictures Television shows such as Twisted Metal, High Country, and Accused.
Mark Young, Executive Vice President of Distribution & Networks at Sony Pictures Television, expressed enthusiasm about the renewal of this long-standing partnership. "We have an impressive slate of feature films and television titles that we are incredibly proud of. We can’t wait for audiences in Spain to enjoy these films following their theatrical releases," he stated. “Moreover, our AXN networks are in strong shape, and this partnership will ensure they continue to set the standard for quality programming across Spain.”
Daniel Domenjó, the newly appointed CEO of Movistar Plus+, emphasized the significance of the movie component in the renewal. "We aim to provide the best film offerings in Spain and be the first to showcase the biggest international titles. Renewing our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment marks a significant step in achieving that goal," he remarked. This announcement comes shortly after Domenjó addressed concerns regarding the future of original films and TV shows on the platform, reaffirming Movistar Plus+’s commitment to being a "driving force" for the local creative industry.
With this renewed agreement, Movistar Plus+ and Sony Pictures Entertainment are set to deliver an unparalleled viewing experience, making it an exciting time for film and television enthusiasts in Spain.
