Security Camera Footage Captures Israeli Forces Boarding Activist Yacht Bound for Gaza
Recent security camera footage reveals the moment Israeli forces boarded a yacht carrying a group of activists, including prominent Swedish climate advocate Greta Thunberg, who were en route to Gaza to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid. The vessel, named the Madleen, was intercepted and its 12 passengers were detained before the boat was towed to the Israeli port city of Ashdod.
This mission was organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a dedicated campaign group working to challenge the blockade on Gaza that has been in place since 2007, following Hamas’s takeover of the region. The activists set sail on June 1, aiming to draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, exacerbated by Israel’s restrictions on aid delivery. Their boat was carrying a modest cargo of supplies, including rice and baby formula, meant to alleviate some of the suffering faced by those in the area.
In response to the activists’ actions, Israeli officials labeled the endeavor a "selfie yacht," indicating their intention to deport the participants back to their home countries. This incident highlights the ongoing tension surrounding humanitarian efforts in the region and raises critical questions about the accessibility of aid in conflict zones.
