Exciting Updates on Mattel Studios’ Masters of the Universe Film
Get ready, Masters of the Universe fans! Mattel Studios is making significant strides towards the completion of its highly anticipated film adaptation, directed by Travis Knight. Recent insights from studio president Robbie Brenner shed light on the monumental scale of this production, especially during her visit to the set at MIPCOM Cannes 2025.
A Set Like No Other
During her keynote session at MIPCOM Cannes, Robbie Brenner reflected on her experience visiting the film’s impressive set, which she described as the largest she has ever encountered in her career. “I visited the set last year, and out of all the movies I’ve worked on, even Barbie, this was the biggest,” Brenner shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “It was massive—spanning two or three sound stages and covering eight back lots. There are characters walking around that are eight feet tall, showcasing some truly fantastic designs.”
Viewing the Director’s Cut
In addition to her set visit, Brenner revealed that she recently had the opportunity to watch an early director’s cut of the film. Her enthusiasm was palpable as she praised the film’s scale and uniqueness. “This will be our second theatrical release, and I think it’s a perfect complement to Barbie. I believe audiences are going to be thrilled—it’s so much fun and feels incredibly different,” she stated.
Star-Studded Cast and Release Details
The Masters of the Universe film features a talented cast, including Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes, and Idris Elba, and is set to hit theaters in June 2026 through Amazon MGM. This film is part of Mattel’s expanding roster of beloved franchises, which also includes Polly Pocket, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Barney.
A Bright Future for Mattel Studios
Following the phenomenal success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie— which grossed over $1.4 billion and received eight Oscar nominations—Brenner emphasized the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for the studio. MIPCOM Cannes 2025, taking place from October 13 to 16, serves as a platform for industry leaders to showcase new franchise developments across television and film.
Stay tuned for more updates as Mattel Studios continues to bring your favorite characters to life on the big screen!
