Manchester United has chosen not to pursue the sale of Kobbie Mainoo, despite earlier considerations to raise funds through his transfer. Former chief scout Mick Brown revealed that the club’s initial plan was perceived as “crazy.” The Red Devils had reportedly been open to offers for the talented 20-year-old, especially with growing pressure to adhere to Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) and Financial Fair Play (FFP) guidelines.
However, Brown clarified that Mainoo is no longer on the chopping block. He stated, “There are several players Manchester United aims to offload, but from what I understand, Kobbie Mainoo is not among them following a change of direction.” He further highlighted that the club is focusing on selling other players, including Garnacho and Sancho, who have been excluded from pre-season training, to generate the necessary funds.
Brown expressed his relief, saying, “In my opinion, it was never a good idea to consider letting Kobbie Mainoo go.” He noted that after the player didn’t sign a new contract, there were concerns about his future at the club. However, interest in Mainoo did not materialize as expected, which, according to Brown, is a positive outcome.
Looking ahead, it appears Mainoo is eager to remain with the team and anticipates a more significant role under the new management of Amorim, who plans to utilize him more frequently in the upcoming season. This change in strategy reflects Manchester United’s commitment to nurturing their young talent and strengthening the squad moving forward.
