The sequel, which features returning stars Allison Williams as Gemma and Violet McGraw as Cady, showcases M3GAN facing off against a new AI doll named Amelia. Unfortunately, M3GAN 2.0 didn’t resonate with audiences or critics, leaving many wondering about the possibility of a third movie.

In a recent interview with Variety, Blum expressed his optimism about the potential for M3GAN 3, stating, “M3GAN will ride again. I’ll find a way.” Although he didn’t provide specific details about the upcoming installment, his enthusiasm suggests that the franchise is far from over.
Blum shared insights on the challenges faced during the creation of the sequel, emphasizing that they “over-thought” the concept. Reflecting on the production, he noted, “We all thought M3GAN was like Superman. We could do anything to her. We could change genres, move her to summer, alter her appearance, or even shift her from villain to hero.” This over-analysis might have contributed to the sequel’s lackluster reception.
A Look Back at M3GAN 2.0
M3GAN 2.0, which hit theaters on June 27 and was directed by Gerard Johnston, also features Brian Jordan Alvarez as Cole, Jen Van Epps as Tess, and Amie Donald as M3GAN, with Jenna Davis reprising her role as the voice of M3GAN. The sequel introduces new characters played by Ivanna Sakhno, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement. Set two years after the events of the first film, it follows Gemma, now an author advocating for AI regulation, as she confronts the new threat posed by Amelia, a malevolent iteration of M3GAN’s technology.
Upcoming Projects in the M3GAN Universe
In addition to M3GAN 3, fans can look forward to a spin-off titled SOULM8TE, directed by Kate Dolan. This new installment is scheduled to hit theaters on January 9, 2026, promising to expand the M3GAN universe even further.
