Kevin Durant Joins Houston Rockets: Reflecting on His NBA Journey
In an exciting development for basketball fans, Kevin Durant is set to play for his fifth NBA team this upcoming season, officially joining the Houston Rockets over the weekend. This move comes as part of the NBA’s historic first seven-team trade, marking a significant shift in Durant’s career.
On Sunday, Durant took to social media to express his gratitude for his time with the Phoenix Suns and share his enthusiasm for the new chapter ahead in Houston. He posted, “Much love to Arizona. Houston, Can’t Wait!” showcasing his eagerness to embrace this next phase.
In a heartfelt conversation with his former coach Steve Nash on the "Mind the Game" podcast, co-hosted by LeBron James, Durant reflected on his journey with the Brooklyn Nets. He shared candid insights about the challenges and triumphs he experienced during his time with the team.
Durant recalled a pivotal moment in Portland before a game, where he pondered, “Who am I spending my next five years with?” This introspection came after he and Nash had recently signed their deals. Durant noted the instability surrounding them, mentioning, “We got GMs going to other teams. We got coaches going to other teams. We got players forcing trades.” He described the atmosphere as chaotic, filled with distractions that hindered their potential.
Despite the turmoil, Durant expressed his respect for Nash, acknowledging their shared understanding and commitment to achieving greatness. “I feel like we were locked in on the same page… but I felt like your hands were tied a lot,” Durant remarked, emphasizing the challenges Nash faced as a coach. Nash agreed, admitting, “I didn’t get to coach as much as I wanted to.”
Durant lamented the missed opportunities, stating, “I think we didn’t get the full Steve Nash like I wanted… like you probably wanted. There were just too many distractions in the way.” He described his time with the Nets as “weird” but also highlighted the joy he found in his first year with the franchise. “That first year, man, the most fun ball I had. Some of the most fun ball I had playing my whole life,” he said, showcasing his love for the game and the city of Brooklyn.
Durant joined the Nets in 2019 after a successful stint with the Golden State Warriors, where he won two NBA championships. Despite facing challenges, including an Achilles injury during his final season with Golden State, Durant played 129 games over his three-year tenure with the Nets.
As he prepares for his new role with the Houston Rockets, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Durant will continue to shape his legacy in the NBA.
