In Ballerina, de Armas portrays a fierce ballerina-assassin on a quest for vengeance following her father’s tragic death.
Keanu Reeves reprises his iconic role as John Wick, sharing insights during the film’s Los Angeles premiere. He described Ballerina as an exciting opportunity to expand the John Wick universe and introduce new characters. “I don’t know if it’s passing the torch,” Reeves remarked, “but it’s definitely part of expanding the story and the world of John Wick.” He praised de Armas for her remarkable ability to blend action with emotional depth, saying, “She’s really great at action but also showcases her range and bravery in her choices.”
Reeves expressed his admiration for de Armas’s transformation during filming, recalling, “I was most impressed when we transitioned from training to the actual scenes. Watching her embrace the joy of action and fully embody her character was incredible.”
Ana de Armas shared her experience of preparing for such a demanding role, stating, “Every day tested my limits. The level of discipline, endurance, and focus required for a film like this was unprecedented for me.” This marks the third collaboration between de Armas and Reeves, following their work on Knock Knock (2015) and Exposed (2016). Reflecting on their reunion, she said, “It was really special to be back on set with John Wick. The atmosphere shifted when he arrived, and the entire crew went quiet—it was iconic.”
As anticipation builds for the fifth installment of the John Wick series, de Armas is hopeful that Ballerina will follow a similar franchise trajectory. “I love this character and believe we can take her story in so many exciting directions.
