Jurassic World Rebirth Roars to Life This Fourth of July
The dinosaurs are back and more thrilling than ever! Universal and Amblin’s latest installment, Jurassic World Rebirth, is making a significant splash at the Fourth of July box office, surpassing initial expectations and signaling a new chapter for the iconic franchise created by Steven Spielberg.
In North America, this holiday blockbuster is projected to achieve an impressive five-day domestic opening of approximately $141.2 million, which includes $85.4 million over the three-day weekend, according to Saturday’s estimates. This remarkable performance ranks as the fifth-best debut for the holiday and the fourth-largest domestic opening of 2025 to date. Considering that July 4 fell on a Friday this year, drawing attention away from movie theaters, this achievement is particularly noteworthy.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences, Jurassic World Rebirth showcases the undeniable strength of the Jurassic brand and the excitement of seeing dinosaurs come to life on the big screen. As the seventh film in the franchise, it is also making waves internationally, with an estimated opening of $171.3 million, bringing its global total to $312.5 million. This impressive figure marks the second-best opening in the franchise’s history and the second-highest of the year so far, trailing only A Minecraft Movie.
Initially, industry forecasts anticipated a domestic opening between $100 million and $120 million, with a global target around $260 million. The film premiered on Wednesday, July 2, to capitalize on the extended holiday weekend. Following the conclusion of the Jurassic World trilogy directed by Colin Trevorrow, Spielberg, Amblin, and Universal sought a fresh perspective by bringing in filmmaker Gareth Edwards (known for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) to direct, with a script penned by the original Jurassic Park screenwriter, David Koepp.
Jurassic World Rebirth features a dynamic new cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey. The plot revolves around an extraction team racing to a research facility on an island pivotal to the original Jurassic Park—only to discover that the island is now home to some of the most dangerous creatures left behind. The film also stars Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda. Longtime franchise producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are at the helm, with Spielberg and Denis Stewart serving as executive producers.
While the first three Jurassic World films each grossed over $1 billion globally, Rebirth had a lower production budget of $180 million before marketing. For context, the original Jurassic World debuted with a franchise-best $208.8 million in 2015, followed by $148 million for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in 2018 and $145 million for Jurassic World: Dominion in 2022, all figures not adjusted for inflation. The first Jurassic Park, directed by Spielberg, opened to $47 million domestically in June 1993—an impressive sum for its time.
In addition to Jurassic World Rebirth, F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt, is also making headlines at the box office. After an impressive opening weekend of $57 million, the racing film is expected to maintain a strong position, projecting an estimated $25 million to $26 million for the three-day weekend, and crossing the $100 million mark domestically.
Other films rounding out the top five include Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s live-action How to Train Your Dragon, Pixar and Disney’s Elio, and Sony’s 28 Years Later. Meanwhile, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s M3GAN 2.0 may experience a significant drop in ticket sales, potentially falling to seventh place behind Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
