Jurassic World Rebirth Dominates South Korean Box Office: Weekend Highlights (July 11-13)
This past weekend, the highly anticipated dinosaur blockbuster, “Jurassic World Rebirth,” claimed the top spot at the South Korean box office, raking in an impressive $3.1 million from 456,149 admissions across 1,304 screens. According to KOBIS, the tracking service provided by the Korean Film Council, the film’s local gross has now reached a staggering $11.9 million.
Following closely in second place is the superhero reboot, “Superman,” which debuted with $2.9 million and attracted 397,569 viewers. Directed by James Gunn, this exciting new take on the iconic hero kicked off its Korean journey on Wednesday, accumulating a total of $4.07 million over its first five days.
In third place, the South Korean thriller “Noise” continues to impress, adding $2.2 million to its earnings, which now totals $8.3 million since its release. Directed by Kim Soo-jin, this psychological horror film features Lee Sun-bin as a woman piecing together the mystery surrounding her missing sister.
Brad Pitt’s racing drama “F1” secured fourth place with $2.04 million, bringing its cumulative gross to $10.9 million. Meanwhile, the new South Korean horror flick “Ghost Train” premiered in fifth place, earning $307,305 from 44,512 admissions and reaching a total of $462,106. Directed by Tak Se-woong, the film stars Joo Hyun-young as Da-kyung, a YouTube horror storyteller investigating strange occurrences at Gwangrim Station after a drop in subscribers, alongside Jeon Bae-soo as the stationmaster and Choi Bo-min as agency producer Woo-jin.
“How to Train Your Dragon” maintained its strong performance in sixth place, adding $296,217 to its local total of $12.7 million. In seventh, “Elio” grossed $216,513, bringing its total to $3.9 million.
Japanese animated features made a splash in the top 10, with “Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback” opening in ninth place with $81,222, just ahead of “Doraemon: Nobita’s Art World Tales,” which earned $68,393. The Korean occult thriller “The Pact” made a return to the top 10 with $43,168, pushing its total to $5.3 million.
Overall, the top 10 films collectively earned $11.4 million over the weekend of July 11-13, a slight dip from the previous weekend’s total of $12.1 million.
