Exciting News: Bidding War for Texas Chainsaw Massacre Reboot
The horror universe is buzzing with anticipation as major players like Jordan Peele, A24, and Taylor Sheridan prepare to compete for the rights to a reboot of the legendary Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original film, released in 1974 and directed by Tobe Hooper, became a cornerstone of the horror genre, leading to a sprawling franchise that includes several sequels and reboots over the decades.
This iconic series has expanded over the years, with notable entries such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986), Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990), The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1995), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006), Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013), Leatherface (2017), and the latest installment, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022).
According to a recent report from Deadline, a competitive bidding war for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre intellectual property (IP)—which encompasses film, television, live events, and gaming—is set to kick off on Monday, June 9, 2025. While no clear frontrunners have emerged yet, several prominent names are eager to present their visions to Verve, the agency that has represented the franchise since 2017.
Among the interested parties are Taylor Sheridan, known for Yellowstone; Oz Perkins from Longlegs; and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions. If they secure the rights, all three will serve as producers, with Perkins collaborating with Bryan Bertino on a co-written project for NEON.
Additionally, J.T. Mollner and Roy Lee are crafting a television pitch in partnership with A24, featuring Glen Powell, a native of Austin, Texas, though he won’t be taking on a starring role. A24 is also working on a Friday the 13th series titled Crystal Lake, showcasing their commitment to the horror genre. Roy Lee is exploring another feature film pitch for Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Netflix, the distributor of the latest franchise entry.
Stay tuned for more updates as the bidding war unfolds. As of now, no official announcements have been made regarding new Texas Chainsaw Massacre films or television series from any studios.
