Jennifer Love Hewitt Addresses Rumors of Feud with Sarah Michelle Gellar After Nearly 30 Years of Silence
In a recent interview with Vulture, Jennifer Love Hewitt opened up about her relationship with Sarah Michelle Gellar, revealing that the two have not spoken in nearly three decades. This revelation comes amidst ongoing speculation about a possible feud between the two actresses, who co-starred in the iconic 1997 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Hewitt, now 46, dismissed the rumors of discord, explaining that she hasn’t had any communication with Gellar, 48, since they last saw each other at the film’s premiere when she was just 18. "I honestly don’t even know how those rumors started," Hewitt shared. "People seem to prefer a narrative where we’re at odds, but I don’t understand why we can’t just support one another."
The former Party of Five star emphasized that she holds no negative feelings towards Gellar. "On my side, we’re good. I have no idea where this speculation is coming from," she stated.
Hewitt portrayed Julie James in I Know What You Did Last Summer and returned for the sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Fans were delighted to see her make a surprise return to the franchise in its latest installment, which premiered recently. Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., who played Ray Bronson, also reprised his role in the 2025 sequel.
While neither Hewitt nor Gellar participated in the direct-to-video sequel I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer or the short-lived 2022 TV series, Gellar made a brief cameo in the latest movie. During the premiere, both actresses were present but did not pose for photos together, sparking further chatter online.
After the premiere, Gellar took to Instagram to clarify that she didn’t have a chance to meet Hewitt, even praising her performance in the movie. "For everyone asking, I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie," she wrote. Gellar explained that she was busy with her children during the red carpet event.
The speculation about a feud reignited last December when Gellar was asked about Hewitt’s involvement in the upcoming sequel. Her abrupt response raised eyebrows, but she later clarified that her reaction was due to concerns over a non-disclosure agreement.
