James Gunn has addressed and dismissed a recent rumor regarding the casting of Wonder Woman. As the co-head of the DC Universe (DCU) alongside Peter Safran, Gunn has been busy steering the franchise into exciting new directions since its official launch in December 2024 with the premiere of “Creature Commandos” Season 1. Currently, Gunn’s much-anticipated Superman film is gracing theaters across the United States, and fans can look forward to the second season of “Peacemaker” arriving next month. Upcoming DCU projects slated for 2026 include “Lanterns,” “Supergirl,” and “Clayface.”
Notably, a new Wonder Woman film is also in the pipeline at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. While there have been no official announcements regarding the casting of Diana Prince or the selection of a director, speculation has arisen online that DC is interested in an actress with a strong television background, specifically mentioning Milly Alcock from “Supergirl.”
However, James Gunn has made it clear that this casting rumor is unfounded. On Threads, he stated, “Nope,” and emphasized that he would never base a major casting decision solely on an actor’s TV or film experience. Instead, he focuses on finding the best fit for the role. He noted, “I didn’t cast Milly because of her past; she was simply the best choice for the part. But we’re not actively casting Wonder Woman, nor discussing it, until we have a finished script.”
According to Variety, the Wonder Woman movie is reportedly being “fast-tracked” at Warner Bros. Studios, suggesting it may be released before the upcoming “Superman 2.” However, the outlet also indicated that there is currently no imminent announcement regarding a sequel. In response to this, Gunn clarified on Threads, “It’s a priority, but I wouldn’t call it fast-tracked. Nothing will go into production until we are confident that the script is solid.”
Additionally, another Wonder Woman-related project is in development at DC Studios: “Paradise Lost,” a television series set on the island of Themyscira prior to Diana’s birth. This project was first announced in 2023, though updates have been sparse since then. Stay tuned for more news as these exciting developments unfold in the DC Universe!
