James Gunn is setting the record straight about his highly anticipated film, Superman. Scheduled to hit theaters on July 11 this summer, this long-awaited DC Comics movie has generated buzz, particularly regarding its runtime. A user on Threads inquired whether the reported runtime of 2 hours and 9 minutes was accurate. Gunn responded, confirming its validity: “Inclusive of credits/post-credits, the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes.”
When another user speculated that Warner Bros. had pressured him to shorten the film, Gunn dismissed the claim, stating, “Zero truth to that,” and added, “And they couldn’t even if that’s something they wanted to. It’s a DC Studios film.”
Superman, which Gunn wrote, directed, and co-produced, marks the inaugural installment of the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film features David Corenswet in the iconic role of the Man of Steel, delving into Clark Kent’s journey as he reconciles his Kryptonian roots with his life in Smallville alongside his adoptive family.
Joining Corenswet is a talented cast, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt (Mister Terrific), Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason (Metamorpho), Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner (Green Lantern), and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders (Hawkgirl).
Additionally, the film will showcase performances from Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Wendell Pierce, Skyler Gisondo, Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, Christopher McDonald, Sara Sampaio, and Terence Rosemore. Notably, characters from the existing DC Universe will make appearances, including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica (the Engineer), and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl.
Stay tuned for more updates as we count down to the release of Superman—a film that promises to honor the legacy of its comic book roots while delivering a fresh take on the beloved superhero.
