On Sunday, Gunn took to Instagram Threads to share his excitement about the film’s impressive box office numbers. Released on July 11, “Superman” achieved the third-largest domestic opening of the year, raking in an astonishing $122 million over its opening weekend. Currently, the film boasts a global box office total of $217 million.
In his heartfelt message, Gunn expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans, stating, “I’m incredibly grateful for your enthusiasm and kind words over the past few days. We’ve seen a lot of ‘Super’ in ‘Superman’ throughout the years, and I’m thrilled to have created a film that emphasizes the ‘man’ aspect of the hero—depicting a kind soul who is always looking out for those in need.” He continued, “The fact that this message resonates so deeply with audiences around the globe is a hopeful testament to the kindness and goodness of humanity. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also joined in the celebration, praising the film’s opening as “the first step” in a bold 10-year strategy for DC Studios. Starring in Gunn’s “Superman” are David Corenswet as the iconic Man of Steel and Nicholas Hoult as the formidable Lex Luthor.
