Jake Paul Shuts Down Boos After Victory Over Julio César Chávez Jr.

In a thrilling showdown in Anaheim, California, Jake Paul faced off against former middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr., emerging victorious by unanimous decision. Following the match, Paul addressed a vocal crowd that had booed him throughout the event, telling them to "shut the f–k up."

“All the boos are just words, and actions speak louder than words, so y’all can shut the f— up!” Paul exclaimed in his post-fight interview, while playfully taunting the audience. “I’m hip, I’m really hip; I just beat your boy’s a–. Easy work, year five—wait till I get going even more, motherf—ers!”

With a record of 12 wins and 1 loss, including 7 knockouts, Paul took what many considered a significant risk by stepping into the ring against the seasoned Chávez, who boasts a record of 54 wins, 7 losses, and 2 draws. Competing in front of a largely pro-Chávez crowd at the Honda Center, Paul showcased his skills against one of the most accomplished opponents of his career.

Despite the stakes, Chávez appeared lackluster throughout much of the fight, failing to deliver effective punches until late in the fourth round. Even with his famous father cheering from ringside, Chávez fought cautiously, allowing Paul to maintain control of the ring and secure enough points to win the rounds.

Chávez began to mount a more noticeable offense in the sixth round and delivered some thrilling shots in the ninth, finally showing glimpses of his long boxing career. However, he could not significantly hurt the YouTuber-turned-boxer, who celebrated on the ropes after withstanding some of Chávez’s flurries in the final round.

The judges scored the bout 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93 in favor of Paul, while the Associated Press also scored it 97-93 for him.

“I thought I lost the first five rounds, so I tried to win the last rounds,” Chávez admitted after the fight. “He’s strong, a good boxer for the first three, four rounds. After that, I felt he was tired. I don’t think he’s ready for the champions, but he’s a good fighter.”

Chávez, who has only fought once since 2021, is often remembered for not fully capitalizing on his father’s legendary boxing legacy. Nonetheless, he remains the most credible opponent Paul has faced so far in his 5.5-year, 13-fight boxing career.
