Israel Conducts New Airstrike on Gaza, Heightening Ceasefire Concerns with Hamas

In a recent development, the Israeli military has executed a new airstrike in Gaza, raising alarms about the delicate state of the ceasefire with Hamas. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the strike targeted what they described as "terrorist infrastructure" in Beit Lahia, located in the northern Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, this site was allegedly utilized for storing weapons intended for an imminent attack on Israeli soldiers.

A spokesperson for the IDF stated, "Our soldiers in the southern command remain deployed in alignment with the ceasefire agreement and will continue to act decisively to neutralize any immediate threats."

Residents of Gaza City reported hearing a loud explosion and witnessing a significant plume of smoke following the airstrike. This incident follows a series of recent strikes that, according to hospital officials, resulted in the deaths of at least 104 individuals, including 46 children.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized the strikes after receiving reports that Israeli troops had come under fire in southern Gaza. The IDF also claimed that a soldier was killed by "enemy fire" in the southern city of Rafah earlier in the week. This military action occurred shortly after Hamas handed over body parts of a hostage, which Israel stated were partially recovered during the ongoing conflict.

Hamas has denied any involvement in the shooting incident in Rafah and has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the ceasefire. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation, asserting that the ceasefire remains intact and clarifying, "As I understand it, they took out an Israeli soldier."

Following the latest round of strikes, the Israeli military reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement while warning that any violations would be met with a firm response.
