Box Office Update: "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" Dominates in China

Paramount’s latest blockbuster, "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning," has successfully secured the number one position at the China box office for the second consecutive weekend. From June 6 to June 8, the Tom Cruise-led action sequel raked in an impressive RMB 70.7 million (approximately $9.8 million), according to data from Artisan Gateway. With this strong performance, the film’s total earnings in China have now reached $46.9 million, showcasing its resilience even amidst a slowdown in new major releases. Notably, IMAX screenings contributed $1.7 million to this total, bringing its cumulative earnings in that format to $8.7 million within the Middle Kingdom.

In second place, the Chinese animated fantasy film "Endless Journey of Love," directed by Zhou Tienan and Yu Ao, attracted $4.2 million during its second weekend. Set in 1930s China, the story follows Qian Xiao, a village girl who discovers her ability to manipulate time, making her a target for formidable adversaries. As she delves into the hidden secrets of the bustling metropolis, she faces various dangers and the true cost of her extraordinary gift. The film features voice talents such as Karry Wang, Liu Xiaoyu, and Zhou Shen, and has accumulated a total of $16.7 million thus far.

Lionsgate’s action thriller "Ballerina," a spinoff from the popular "John Wick" franchise, opened in third place with $2.9 million. The film stars Ana de Armas as a determined assassin navigating the treacherous criminal underworld in her quest for vengeance.

Coming in fourth, "Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales" generated $2.2 million, bringing its overall total to $12.1 million. Directed by Teramoto Yukiyo, this animated adventure takes Doraemon and his friends on a whimsical journey into the realm of art.

Finally, Disney’s live-action reboot of "Lilo & Stitch" rounded out the top five by earning $2.1 million, boosting its total earnings in China to $22.4 million since its release on May 23.

Overall, China’s weekend box office grossed $26 million, reflecting a significant decline from the previous weekend’s $58.2 million. The year-to-date total stands at $3.88 billion, marking an impressive 26.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
