On Saturday, Netflix thrilled fans by unveiling the first teaser trailer for "Frankenstein," the highly anticipated adaptation by acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro. Based on Mary Shelley’s timeless 1818 novel, this cinematic masterpiece is set to debut in November, promising a fresh take on the classic tale.
In "Frankenstein," Oscar Isaac takes on the role of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant yet self-absorbed scientist. He embarks on a monstrous experiment that brings a creature, portrayed by Jacob Elordi, to life. However, this ambitious creation leads to devastating consequences for both the creator and his tragic creation.
Guillermo del Toro, renowned for his imaginative storytelling and stunning creature features, has dedicated over a decade to bringing this passion project to fruition. At the Tudum event, he described "Frankenstein" as "the culmination of a journey that has occupied most of my life," emphasizing that "monsters have become my personal belief system" and noting the profound influence of Shelley’s work on his artistic vision.
In a heartfelt tribute to Mary Shelley during his acceptance speech for the BAFTA Award for Best Director for "The Shape of Water," del Toro expressed, “The most important figure from English legacy is, incredibly, for me, a teenager by the name of Mary Shelley, and she has remained a figure as important in my life as if she were family.” He shared how her work has inspired him through challenging times, encouraging him to persevere in his filmmaking journey.
Following his recent success with "Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio," which earned him a third Oscar, del Toro’s "Frankenstein" features an impressive cast, including Mia Goth ("X"), Felix Kammerer ("All Quiet on the Western Front"), Lars Mikkelsen ("The Witcher"), David Bradley ("Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio"), Christian Convery ("Sweet Tooth"), Charles Dance ("Game of Thrones"), and Christoph Waltz ("Inglourious Basterds"). Del Toro not only directed the film but also wrote the script and produced it alongside his longtime collaborators J. Miles Dale and Scott Stuber.
