This year’s Godzilla Day brings exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise! The title for the highly anticipated sequel to 2023’s Godzilla Minus One has been officially announced. So, what can you expect from the upcoming film?
During the Godzilla Fest 2025, held in Tokyo, Japan, it was revealed that the next entry in the Godzilla saga will be called Godzilla Minus Zero. Once again, the film will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who also helmed Godzilla Minus One. While details about the cast, storyline, and a release date are still under wraps, the announcement included a striking new logo for the film, designed by Yamazaki himself.

Originally released in 2023, Godzilla Minus One marked the 37th installment in the Godzilla franchise and the 33rd produced by the legendary film studio Toho. Despite a limited release in the U.S., the film was a significant success, earning widespread acclaim and becoming the highest-grossing Japanese Godzilla film to date. It outperformed the 2016 hit Shin Godzilla and ranked as the third-highest-grossing movie in Japan for 2023. With a global box office total of $113 million against a modest budget of just $15 million, Godzilla Minus One also made history by winning an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, becoming the first non-English language film to achieve this honor. Many fans and critics alike credit the film with revitalizing the Godzilla franchise.
